The Drexel men's basketball team will make the short drive to Hawk Hill on Wednesday night to face Saint Joseph's University. The Dragons and the Hawks tip-off from Hagan Arena at 7 p.m.
Drexel has been off since returning home from the Paradise Jam. Frantz Massenat has stepped up his scoring from a year ago and leads the club with 16.5 points per game. He poured in a career-best 23 points in the win against Winthrop and made six three-pointers. Samme Givens is second on the team with 12.5 ppg. Givens has a club-high 7.3 rebounds per game and grabbed his 800th career rebound in the Winthrop game. Freshman Damion Lee has made an immediate impact. The Baltimore native is the only freshman in the nation to average 12 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Drexel enters the game 15th in the country in scoring defense, allowing only 54.2 points per game. The Dragons lead the nation in field goal percentage defense at .203. That will be tested by the Hawks, who have made 44 percent of their long-range attempts. Saint Joseph's is 4-2 this season after dismantling Penn State on Saturday. The Hawks have a high-powered offense led by Carl Jones, who is averaging more than 21 points per game. He is one of four players averaging at least 11 points per game. The Hawks shoot better than 48 percent from the floor and have posted wins against Western Kentucky, Georgia Tech and Tulsa. Their losses are to Iona and Seton Hall.
