Dragons Defeat St. Francis, 63-42, for Sixth Straight Win

Philadelphia – Drexel raced out to a big first half lead and defeated St. Francis University, 63-42, for its sixth straight win. Damion Lee led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points, while junior Daryl McCoy ripped down 14 rebounds. The Dragons improved their record to 8-4 on the season.
The Dragons scored the first six points of the contest and increased its margin to 21 points by the time the first half ended. Drexel's defense held the Red Flash (3-10) off the board for a span of more than six minutes during a 9-0 run. The Red Flash made just six field goals in the first half as Drexel led at intermission, 35-14, due in large part to seven first half three-pointers. Lee hit three treys in the first half, while Frantz Massenat and Chris Fouch each had a pair.
Daryl McCoy logged a career-high 38 minutes up front for the Dragons. The junior grabbed 14 boards, including six on the offensive end. Samme Givens added 11, making five of his eight shots, while Derrick Thomas and Fouch each scored 10 points. Drexel shot 55 percent in the first half and finished the game shooting 44 percent. The Dragons outrebounded the Red Flash, 37-20, and had 15 offensive rebounds.
Drexel starts 2012 with a conference road game at Georgia State on Jan. 2. The Panthers are 9-3 and have won nine in a row. Two days later, the Dragons are back at the Daskalakis Athletic Center where they tip-off against Towson at 7 p.m.
