Drexel Goes Cold From the Floor, Falls at UNCW, 51-43

Wilmington, N.C. – Dartaye Ruffin has his fourth double-double of the season, but Drexel shot a season-low 26 percent from the floor and fell to UNCW at the Trask Coliseum, 51-43. The loss dropped Drexel into a tie for fifth place in the CAA with a 9-7 mark. Drexel is now 17-9 overall. UNCW improved to 13-14 overall and 7-9 in league play.
UNCW's Keith Rendlemen's desperation bank shot with 1:32 left in the game gave the Seahawks a three-point lead at 43-40. Gerald Colds missed a shot and Chad Tomko raced down the court for a lay-up. Tanner Milson added two free throws as the Seahawks went up seven and defeated Drexel for the second straight time.
Drexel held UNCW to just seven field goals in the first half, but, on the other end shot just 28 percent. The Dragons trailed by three points at 15-12 with 8:05 left in the half. Ruffin sparked an 8-0 run, scoring the first six points during that stretch. When Chris Fouch hit a short jumper, the Dragons went ahead 20-15 at the 5:08 mark. Those were the last points of the half the Dragons would score and UNCW took the lead at 21-20 with 56 seconds remaining on a Trevor DeLoach tip-in.
Ruffin led the team with 16 points, which tied a career-high. The freshman also had 13 rebounds including nine on the offensive end. Drexel made only 17 of its 65 shots and was just 1-for-15 from long range. Tomko led the Seahawks with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Rendleman also had a double-double with 15 points and 10 caroms.

Samme Givens also continued to move up the rebounding chart. The junior grabbed six rebounds and moved past Jonathan Raab into ninth place on the career list at Drexel with 725 boards.
Drexel returns home for two of its final three regular-season games. The Dragons host Kent State on ESPNU at 9 p.m. on Friday as part of BracketBusters. Drexel will then host VCU on Senior Day (Feb. 23) before closing the regular season at Towson on Feb. 26.
