Drexel Crew Dominates Varsity Eight Races

Philadelphia - Drexel Crew continued its spring season as the Dragons welcomed La Salle and Villanova to the Schuylkill River. Drexel produced first-place finishes in the women's varsity eight, the men's varsity eight and men's freshmen eight races.

The racing began with the women's varsity eight with coxswain Cate Khella, stroke Elizabeth Bratton, Dana Haneman, Julia Jackson, Juliana DeMarici, Kayla Wroblesky, Mallory Sykes, Casondra Clawson, and bow Alexa Antonioli. The Marlene Buckley boat took first place over both La Salle and Villanova with a time of 6:36.99.

In the following race, the men's varsity eight clocked in at 5:43.33 for a top place finish. The Vince Vidas boat featured coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Kurt Linton, Kyle Fabel, Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Timothy Drake, Will Masters, Liam O'Neill, and bow Jacob Sloan.

Alex Paulin coxed the John A. Daskalakis boat past Villanova with stroke Taylor Mondak, Brooke Wertan, Colleen Owens, Megan Bush, Asiya Mahmud, Samantha Cowan, Mollie Cusack, and bow Emily Coyle with a time of 5:44.08. The women's third varsity eight, in the Joseph Greipp, with coxswain Carolina Torres, stroke Jillian Skovran, Kathy Cheng, Lillian Reed, Elise Panacek, Emily Barth, Alicia Hoy, Victoria Bannister, and bow Jennifer Everett recorded another top time for the Dragons.

The men's freshmen eight crossed the finish line at 5:53.11 for first place. Dana Piccoli coxed the Peggy Greenawalt boat with stroke, John Pieper, Vanja Busic, Sebastian Ryan, Steven Miner, Ryan McSpedon, Ross Morris, Matthew Ryan, and bow Marcus DeMarici.

Drexel crew will compete in the Murphy Cup next Saturday, March 26 on the Schuylkill River.
