Philadelphia - The Drexel men closed out their regular-season with a tight 4-3 loss at Delaware on Sunday, but will have a chance to end the season on a high note as they enter the CAA Tournament as the No. 9 seed and are set to face No. 8 George Mason on Thursday in Norfolk, Va. The Dragons (6-5, 1-2 CAA) fell 4-3 to the Patriots in their final home match of the season, April 9, but will have their shot at redemption on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. in the first round of the tournament hosted by Old Dominion University.
The Patriots finished the regular season with a 10-10 overall record and a 2-3 mark in CAA matches. George Mason dropped dual matches to Delaware and James Madison entering this weekend's tournament. Three tight doubles matches that went the way of the Patriots proved to be the turning point in a match that was split 3-3 after singles play. Drexel's Nokoloz Kurdadze (first), Bryan Nguyen (third) and Skyler Davis (sixth) all won in singles play.
Drexel has advanced in each of the last two years at the CAA Tournament, with a win over George Mason last season and a victory over Hofstra in 2009. If the Dragons best the Patriots in Thursday's opening round match it will set up a show down with the top-seeded VCU Rams at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
