San Diego, Calif. - In one of nation's most prestigious early spring events in the collegiate rowing calendar, Drexel's women's varsity eight earned a berth to the petite finals and finished third overall at the 2011 San Diego Crew Classic.
In the petite final, coxswain Cate Khella, stroke Elizabeth Bratton, Alexa Antonioli, Julia Jackson, Mallory Sykes, Kayla Wroblesky, Juliana DeMarici, Casondra Clawson and bow Dana Haneman guided the Marlene Buckley to a time of 6:55.10. Bates crossed the finish line first in 6:52.90 while second-place Victoria clocked in at 6:53.89. San Diego State, Saint Mary's and Southern Methodist claimed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

The women's varsity eight was closing in on second-place at the halfway point, but were penalized for going out of their lane.
