Camden, N.J. - Drexel Crew will compete in the 2011 Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River on Saturday, April 9 through April 10. Head Coach Paul Savell will be have 10 boats vying for final berths and the Knecht Cup.
Drexel women's varsity four will kick off action starting at 8:17 a.m on Saturday. The Sandra Lee Sheller boat will include coxswain Caitlin Meehan, stroke Jillian Skovran, Chloe Swansen, Amanda Dargay and bow Brogan Piecara. The top three boats in each heat along with the next best three times will earn the right to row in one of three semis beginning at 2:12 p.m.
At 11:22 a.m. Drexel's women's varsity eight, in the Marlene Buckley II boat, will begin its run toward the Knecht Cup. Coxswain Cate Khella, stroke Elizabeth Bratton, Alexa Antonioli, Kayla Wroblesky, Juliana DeMarici, Julia Jackson, Mallory Sykes, Casondra Clawson and bow Dana Haneman will compete for a top three finish and a spot in the semis. The semifinals will begin at 5:02 p.m.
Second varsity eight racing will follow the varsity eights with the Drexel women in the Marlene Buckley boat with coxswain Alex Paulin, stroke Taylor Mondak, Emily Coyle, Colleen Owens, Megan Bush, Asiya Mahmud, Samantha Cowan, Mollie Cusack and bow Brooke Wertan. The Marlene Buckley will race at 12:06 p.m. with the top three finishers earning a spot in one of two semifinals starting at 4:34 p.m.
The women's novice eight races will begin at 12:48 p.m. Coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Amanda O'Malley, Colleen Delany, Shannon O'Donnell, Elizabeth Daugherty, Caitlin Buser, Alyssa Leahy, Sarah Mackenzie, and bow Jackie Bender will help guide the Anna Marie boat to the semi-finals starting at 5:37 p.m.
The preliminary heats will conclude with the women's second varsity four race at 2:33 p.m. The Dawn Byers boat will feature coxswain Dana Piccoli, stroke Natasha Martines, Elise Panacek, Kathy Cheng, and bow Lillian Reed. The top two finishers along with the next two fastest times will earn a place in the finals.
The men will kick off action with the varsity pair at 7:42 am. Liam O'Neill and Peter Schmidt will look to guide the Katherine M.L. Buckley boat to one of the two semi-final races beginning at 1:58 p.m.
Drexel's varsity four will race at 8:45 a.m. The LeBow College of Business boat will feature coxswain Justin Malley, stroke Pete Eyrich, Dylan Siegfried, Adam Cordi and bow John Luciani. The top two finishers in each heat along with the four fastest times will earn a spot in the semi-finals starting at 5:35 p.m.
At 11:34 a.m. the men's varsity eight, in the Unnamed Empacher boat, will feature coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Kurt Linton, Gregg Francis, Aleksandar Radovic , Brian Timlin, Michael Faust, Kyle Fabel, Timothy Drake and bow Jacob Sloan. The varsity eight semi-finals will begin at 5:23 p.m.
Drexel's Annette Pennoni boat will gear up for the men's second varsity eight race scheduled for 12:27 p.m. Coxswain Steve Matyas, stroke Filip Topalovic, Gregory Pierce, Anthony Fittipaldi, Will Masters, Kevin Rorabaugh, Milos Rujevic, Ernesto DelValle and bow Nick Buyse will need a top two finish or the next two fastest times in order to qualify for the grand final on Sunday.
The preliminary heats will conclude with the men's novice eight race at 1:37 p.m. The Peggy Greenawalt boat with feature coxswain Marc Smith, stroke John Pieper, Vanja Busic, Sebastian Ryan, Steven Miner, Ryan McSpedon, Ross Morris, Matthew Ryan and bow Marcus DeMarici.
