Women’s Crew Set to Defend Title on Saturday

Philadelphia – Drexel Crew sends six men's boats and five women's boats to row in the Bergen and Kelly Cup hosted by Saint Joseph's on the Schuylkill River on Saturday, April 30. The men's freshmen eight race will kick off action at 10:00 a.m. and will conclude the one-day regatta with the men's varsity eight event. The Drexel women's varsity eight will be looking to defend their Kelly Cup title as the two-time Philadelphia city champions in 2009 and 2010.
The women's freshmen eight will take the water at 10:30 a.m. for the first race of the day. The Anna Marie boat with coxswain Dana Piccoli, stroke Amanda O'Malley, Colleen Delaney, Sarah Mackenzie, Alyssa Leahy, Shannon O'Donnell, Elizabeth Daugherty, Caitlin Buser and bow Jackie Bender will race La Salle and regatta host Saint Joseph's.
The Dragons will then send out two boats at 10:50 a.m. for the women's varsity four event against Saint Joseph's, Temple, La Salle, and Philadelphia University. Drexel will launch the Sandra Lee Sheller boat with coxswain Caitlin Meehan, Jillian Skovran, Chloe Swansen, Amanda Dargay and bow Brogan Piecara. The women's second varsity four, in the Dawn Byers boat, will include coxswain Carolina Torres, stroke Natasha Martines, Elise Panacek, Kathy Cheng and bow Lillian Reed.
The women's second varsity four race will feature Drexel in lane two up against Temple and Saint Joseph's at 11:10 a.m. The Dragons will launch the Marlene Buckley boat with coxswain Alex Paulin, Taylor Mondak, Asiya Mahmud, Colleen Owens, Megan Bush, Juliana DeMarici, Samantha Cowan, Mollie Cusack and bow Brooke Wertan.
At 11:30 a.m. the women will row to defend their Kelly Cup title from last two years. Drexel will race in lane two in a five-boat race with coxswain Kerry Walsh, Elizabeth Bratton, Emily Coyle, Kayla Wroblesky, Alexa Antonioli, Julia Jackson, Mallory Sykes, Casondra Clawson and bow Dana Haneman. The Unnamed Empacher will take on Saint Joseph's, Temple, Las Salle and Philadelphia University.
On the men's side, freshmen eight race will kick of action at 10:00 am. The Peggy Greenawalt boat, with coxswain Marc Smith, stroke John Pieper, Vanja Busic, Sebastian Ryan, Steven Miner, Ryan McSpedon, Brian Kissam and bow Ross Morris will challenge La Salle from lane two. Drexel's next race starts at 10:20 a.m. when the men's pair, with stroke Liam O'Neill and bow Peter Schmidt, takes on Temple, La Salle and Philadelphia University A and B boat.
The Dragons enter the varsity events at 10:40 a.m. when they send their men's four, in the LeBow C.O.B. boat with coxswain Justin Malley, stroke Michael Golden, Paul Wisniowski, Pete Eyrich and bow Adam Cordi up against Philadelphia University, Temple and regatta host Saint Joseph's from lane three. Drexel men's second varsity four, in the Oxholm boat, with coxswain Ashley Jordan, stroke Dylan Siegfried, Scott Nordsiek, Pete Rampulla and bow John Luciani will face Saint Joseph's and La Salle from lane three at 11:00 a.m.
The varsity eight races will follow beginning at 11:20 a.m. The men's second varsity eight rowing, in the Annette Pennoni boat, with coxswain Steve Matyas, stroke Filip Topalovic, Gregory Pierce, Anthony Fittipaldi, Brian Timlin, Kevin Rorabaugh, Milos Rujevic, Ernesto Del Valle and bow Nick Buyse will race against Temple and Saint Joseph's A and B boat.
At 11:40 a.m., the men will take to the water for the final event of the day as four varsity eight boats compete for the Bergen Cup title. From lane two in the Randall Lee boat, the Dragons with coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Kurt Linton, Gregg Francis, Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Michael Faust, Kyle Fabel, Timothy Drake, Jacob Sloan and bow Randall Lee will face Saint Joseph's, Temple, Philadelphia University and La Salle.
