Philadelphia - Juliana Speroni broke a scoreless tie early in the second half and Jenna Lindsay scored an insurance goal in the final seconds as Drexel defeated Delaware State, 2-0. Lindsay's goal was her 20th in her career, tying her for the school record for career goals. The Dragons improved to 1-1-1.
Speroni broke a scoreless tie in the 71st minute. Jenna Lindsay drove in on the right side and dropped a nice pass to Speroni, who fired a shot past the Hornets' keeper to give the Dragons their first goal of the game and of the season. The Dragons continue to apply pressure on Delaware State. The Hornets remained close as Katelyn Kosolosky made eight saves in the game.
Lindsay iced the game with her record-tying goal in the waning seconds. The senior put home career goal number 20 after a feed from Megan Hammaker was deflected. Lindsay tied the record set by Aleka Yiantsos.
The teams went to intermission scoreless, despite Drexel having ample opportunities to get on the board. The Dragons outshot the Hornets (0-3-1), 10-2, in the opening 45 minutes. Victoria Troccoli started in goal for Drexel, but was not forced to make a save in the half. Freshman Eve Badana came in for the final 45 minutes and made two saves.
Drexel is off until Friday when it hosts Temple at 4 p.m. at Vidas Field.
