Swimming and Diving Fall Short against Delaware and Northeastern

Newark, Del. – The Drexel swimming and diving team fell short against opponents Delaware and Northeastern this weekend. The Blue Hens handed the men's team their first lost of the season, 86-214. Delaware topped the Drexel women's swim team, 231-56. The women also fell to Northeastern, 234-59. The men are now 4-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The women's team dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Mike Krohn recorded the men's sole first place victory in the 100 yard butterfly event. Krohn stopped the clock at 51.53. The men's 200 yard medley featuring John Quagliariello, Chad Schmidt, Mike Krohn, and Alex Bagshaw recorded second place with a time of 1:35.42. Gregory Oprendek also clocked in a second place time in the 100 yard breaststroke. Alex Bagshaw had a runner-up performance in the 50 yard freestyle. Bagshaw posted a time of 21.78 behind Delaware's Paul Gallagher.
On the women's side, Lauren Faykes took second place behind Northeastern's Jill Kearns with a time of 2:07.87 in the 200 yard butterfly. Faykes also clocked in a second place time of 5:09.46 in the 500 yard freestyle. Devina Tyagi earned third in the 100 backstroke behind Delaware's Courtney Raw and Northeastern's Anna Schegoleva.
Drexel diver Stephen Cal placed second with a score of 297.75 in the 3 meter event, while teammate Ian Preschel took sixth. Delaware's Brian Coone took first with a score of 301.00. Stephen also took second in the 1 meter event. Cal scored 273.55. Preschel took sixth in the same event.
The Dragons return to action on Friday, January 20 at Army at 4:00 p.m. on the road and then travel back to Drexel Pool for a meet against Howard on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
