Swimming and Diving Shows Strong Performance Despite Loss to Army

West Point, N.Y. – The Drexel swimming and diving team was edged out by Army Friday evening. The men fell to the Black Knights, 160-140, while the women were defeated 182-112. The men's team dropped to an overall record of 4-2 while the women are now at 1-6 overall.
Despite the loss, men's swimmer Alex Galinskiy showed an outstanding performance, securing first place wins in the 100 free, 200 free, and 500 free events, as well as participating in the 200 free relay first place win. Teammate Andrew Reimon had a good outing with first place finishes in the 100 and 200 breast events as well as the 200 IM. Sophomore Alex Bagshaw also added a first place win in the 50 free, finishing with a time of 21.64.
For the women, junior Lauren Faykes took first in the 200 free, 200 fly, and 500 free events. Teammates Devina Tyagi and Gizem Yali added wins in the 100 back and 200 back events respectively. Freshman Rebecca Heffernan also took first in the 200 IM event with a time of 2:12.94.
Both the men's and women's teams placed first in their respective free relay events as well.
Junior diver Stephen Cal had a successful outing, placing first in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 265.50 and taking third place in the 3-meter event with a 286.80 score.
The Dragons return home tomorrow to compete against Howard at 1:00 p.m. at Drexel Pool.
