Drexel Swimming and Diving Sweeps Howard on Saturday

Philadelphia – The Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Howard on Saturday afternoon in front of a packed crowd at the Drexel Pool. The men defeated the Bison, 164-98, while the women won 135-98. The Dragons recorded 23 first place finishes. The men's team is now 5-2 overall and the women improved to 2-6 on the season.
For the men, freshman Zac Wister recorded a top time of 9:55.30 in the 1000 yard freestyle, while fellow freshman Mike Krohn stopped the clock first in the 200 yard freestyle. Junior Daniel Zalkind earned first place in the 100 yard backstroke and the 200 yard backstroke. Freshmen Alex Galinskiy, Mike Shaeffer, and Alex Chialastri had the top three times in the 50 yard freestyle. Chialastri also stopped the clock at 47.77 for first place in the 100 yard freestyle. Freshmen Andrew Reimon registered first place in the 200 yard breaststroke.
On the women's side, senior Victoria Mayer earned first place in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:25.30. Freshman Brianna Bentz won first place in the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle. Teammate Gizem Yali posted the top time in the 100 yard backstroke and the 200 yard backstroke. Freshman Rebecca Heffernan took first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:11.85. Junior standout Lauren Faykes clocked in ahead of Howard's Caleah Gregoire in the 200 yard butterfly with a first place time of 2:20.79. Senior Devina Tyagi took first in the 50 yard freestyle. Teammate Jessica Gidzinski placed second in the 50 yard freestyle and took first in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:37.17.
Drexel's Stephen Cal scored 266.62 for first place in the 1-meter and 264.82 in the three-meter event. Ian Preschel took second with 140.47 in the 1-meter event and 122.32 in the three-meter.
Drexel returns to action on Saturday, January 28 as the Dragons host Lehigh at 1:00 p.m. on Senior Day.
