Drexel Club Hockey Defeats Villanova in the Winter Classic

Philadelphia - The Drexel club hockey team had the unique opportunity to participate in the 2012 Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park on Thursday night. The Dragons faced Villanova on the ice at the ballpark and came away with a 7-3 win.
Drexel had the opportunity to face its cross-town rival in an Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association game that began at 7:15 last night. Drexel Athletics Director Dr. Eric Zillmer dropped the ceremonial first puck on the same ice where the Philadelphia Flyers took on the New York Rangers in front of more than 40,000 people on Saturday. Drexel came away with the victory and improved to 6-1 in ECHA play. The star of the game for the Dragons was Ross Denczi. The forward recorded a hat trick and also had an assist for four points in the game.
An estimated crowd of more than 3,000 watched the game as the Drexel Club team had this unique opportunity to play in the event. The Dragons used the Philadelphia Phillies club house as the locker room for their game.
