Drexel Crew Concludes Racing at 2012 Navy Day Regatta

Philadelphia – Drexel Crew had a successful day on the home waters of the Schuylkill River at the 2012 Navy Day Regatta. Together, the four men's and four women's boats placed within the top five from each event. The men's second varsity eight, the women's second varsity eight and the women's novice eight all posted second-place on the day.
The men's novice kicked off the day for the Dragons. The Peggy Greenawalt posted the third fastest time, but received fourth place overall due to an arch violation. Penn's lightweight 'A' boat crossed the finish line first at 13:18.26 followed by another Quaker boat at 13:25.96. Navy moved to third place with a time of 13:46.59. Christopher Henderson, stroke Mikulas Sum, Michael DiLucca, Daniel Palombo, Daniel Dollin, Paul Bellefleur, Nicholas Capaldi, Lawrence Lindawan and bow Daniel Pyle posted 13:55.28 in their first race of the season for Drexel.
The men's second varsity eight boat showed speed on the water placing second overall with a time of 13:26.16. Navy stopped the clock first at 13:05.11. Victoria Kenion coxed Antoinette Pennoni boat along with stroke John Pieper, Cameron Staines, James Byrne, Jake Murphy, Ryan McSpedon, Milos Rujevic, Grigorios Papadourakis and bow Christian Ladd ahead of Navy's “B” and “C” boats. Drexel's third varsity shell came in fifth out of 10 entries with a time of 13:40.10. The Vince Vidas boat featured coxswain Diana Fox, stroke Dean Hill, Brian McCabe, Timothy Drake, Troy Beck, David Gockley, Brian Kissam, Andrew Weinstein and bow Matt Gehret.
The men's varsity eight stopped the clock at 13:20.73 for fourth-place. Navy's top men's eight finished first with a time of 12:48.37 followed by Penn at 12:50.61. The Midshipmen's second eight took third. The newly named Joseph Greipp consisted of Coxswain Marc Smith along with stroke Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Sebastian Ryan, Vanja Busic, Michael Faust, Ryan Mallgrave, Kurt Linton and bow Hartman Byers. The shell finished ahead of Penn's second eight, Saint Joseph's, West Point, La Salle, Delaware, New York Maritime, the College of New Jersey and Franklin and Marshall.
The women's novice eight opened up the year with a second-place finish. Penn penciled in at 15:28.58 followed by the Dragons at 15:40.85. Rachel Bowen coxed the John Daskalakis boat with stroke Rose Erhlich, Julie McGlynn, Taylor Brady, Rebecca McCool, Megan Raver, Kate Wilchek, Jordan Marinchak and bow Allie Schachter past Navy, West Point, the College of New Jersey, Bryn Mawr and Rutgers.
The women's second varsity eight, in the Marlene Buckley boat, also finished second with a time of 15:04.44. Navy clocked in at 14:53.19 for first-place. Coxswain Catherine Hamilton, stroke Tori King, Emily Gartland, Kayla Wroblesky, Elizabeth Daugherty, Amanda Kleuser, Alyssa Leahy, Jayme Batcher and bow Jackie Bender finished ahead of Penn's top boat. The women's third varsity boat finished next with a time of 15:31.13 for fourth place out of 13 boats. Sarah Messenger coxed the John Daskalakis boat with stroke Sierra Baca, Alexa Antonioli, Amanda Dargay, Elise Panacek, Kathy Cheng, Bridget Pfeifer, Barbara McKenna and bow Elise Levito across the finish line before Delaware, Navy, Rutgers, Temple, La Salle, Saint Joseph's and West Point.
The women's varsity eight concluded the day of racing clocking in a time of 15:13.11 for third place overall. Navy had a top-time of 14:50.36 followed by Penn at 14:59.97. The Maria Papadakis boat consisted of coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Julia Jackson, Elizabeth Campanella, Olivia Babiec, Samantha Cowan, Amanda O'Malley, Mallory Sykes, Mollie Cusack and bow Colleen Delaney. The Dragons crossed the finish line before Saint Joseph's Delaware, West Point, Rutgers, La Salle, Temple, Penn State, Philadelphia, Franklin and Marshall and Bryn Mawr respectively.
