RICHMOND, Va. - Drexel freshman Meghan Creighton was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Creighton, who has started all eight games as a freshman for Drexel, was named to the TD Bank Classic All-Tournament Team after helping lead the Dragons to their second tournament title in two weeks with wins over Rhode Island and Vermont.
Creighton averaged 9.0 points per game for the week, including a career high 14 points against Vermont in the TD Bank Classic championship game. That night, she was a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor, all from three-point range, adding a 2-for-2 showing at the free throw line. She also had four rebounds and six assists against no turnovers. Creighton's 14 points eclipsed the previous personal best of 13 she had notched the night before against Rhode Island. In that game, she was 3-for-5 from the floor, once again taking all her shots from long range. She was 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
The freshman from West Chester, Pa. is the second Dragon to earn CAA Rookie of the Week recognition. Her high school teammate Rachel Pearson was the league's honoree last week. Drexel has now won the award in back-to-back weeks after not boasting a Rookie of the Week since 2008.
Creighton is averaging 7.0 points per game for Drexel this season, fourth on the team. She is also among the CAA's top 10 thus far this year in three-pointers per game (1.5) and three-point percentage (.375).
