
Drexel Crew Earns Five Medals at the 2012 Knecht Cup

Philadelphia – Drexel Crew advanced eight boats to the grand finals and two shells to the petite finals at the 2012 Knecht Cup hosted on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. The Dragons captured one gold medal, three silver medals and one bronze medal after two days of solid competition amongst 60 participating programs.
The women's varsity eight earned fifth place in the petite finals with a time of 6:47.86. Alex Paulin coxed the Marlene Buckley II boat with stroke Asiya Mahmud, Mallory Sykes, Elizabeth Bratton, Alexa Antonioli, Julia Jackson, Sierra Baca, Mollie Cusack and bow Elizabeth Daugherty past George Mason. Old Dominion clocked in first with a time of 6:37.40. Miami finished second followed by Temple and West Virginia respectively.
The women's second varsity eight, in the Marlene Buckley boat, placed sixth in the grand final with a time of 6:51.84. Coxswain Caitlin Meehan, stroke Jackie Bender, Emily Coyle, Juliana DeMarici, Samantha Cowan, Amanda O'Malley, Alyssa Leahy, Amanda Dargay and bow Colleen Delaney were outlasted by first-place finisher Bucknell A. Bucknell crossed the finish line at 6:45.82. Duke placed second followed by Boston College, Kansas and Holy Cross.
The women's varsity pair, in the Katherine M.L. Buckley boat, placed fourth with a time of 8:48.68 in the final. Barbara McKenna and Brooke Wertan outlasted Dowling and Fairfield. UMass B took first place with a time of 8:12.60 followed by UMass A and Pittsburgh respectively.
The women's novice eight won silver after stopping the clock at 6:02.05 in the grand final. Catherine Hamilton coxed the Anna Marie boat along with stroke, Meredith Bracken, Emily Gartland, Olivia Babiec, Bridget Pfeifer, Amanda Kleuser, Joy Yingling, Jayme Batcher and bow Elise Levito past Marietta, Boston College, Marist and Colgate. Trinity took gold with a time of 6:00.62.
For the men's team, the varsity eight, in the Lois Krall boat, clocked in a time of 5:48.08 for a silver medal. Coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Kurt Linton, Paul Wisniowski, Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Sebastian Ryan, Vanja Busic, Michael Faust and bow Will Masters passed Trinity, Marist, Saint Joseph's and La Salle. Temple won gold with a time of 5:48.08.
The men's second varsity eight won gold with a time of 5:59.82 in the finals. The Antoinette Pennoni boat with coxswain Marc Smith, stroke John Pieper, Marcus DeMarici, Filip Topalovic, Brian Timlin, Kevin Rorabaugh, Ryan Mallgrave, Timothy Drake and bow Patrick McGann crossed the finish line ahead of Trinity, Saint Joseph's B, Temple, Bucknell A and Hobart.
The men's varsity four boat earned sixth place in the petite final with a time of 7:08.77. Rochester won gold, Washington College earned silver and Iona A took bronze. The LeBow College of Business boat featured coxswain Jacquelyn Durkin, stroke Nick Buyse, Brian Kissam, David Gockley and bow Andrew Weinstein.
The men's varsity pair, in the Katherine M.L. Buckley boat, stopped the clock at 7:28.26 for a bronze medal. Pete Eyrich and Adam Cordi crossed the finish line before Maryland, Washington College and Penn State. Colgate won gold with a time of 7:24.77, while Rutgers-Camden earned silver.
The men's novice eight won a silver medal with a time of 6:02.05 behind Trinity.Victoria Kenion coxed the Vince Vidas boat with stroke Dean Hill, Brian McCabe, Hartman Byers, Cameron Staines, James Byrne, Casimir Czworkowski, Grigorios Papadourakis and bow Christian Ladd ahead of Marietta, Boston College, Marist and Colgate.
