Men's Squash Wins Three of Four in New York

CLINTON, N.Y. - The Drexel men's squash team won three of its four matches over the weekend in the State of New York, beginning on Friday with a 7-2 win over Hobart. The Dragons fell at Hamilton in a tense 5-4 decision on Saturday before blanking both Siena and Northeastern on Sunday, 9-0. The Dragons also had a match scheduled with Vermont later on Saturday, but due to the inclement weather in the northeast, the Catamounts were unable to travel to New York and the match was canceled.
The top of Drexel's ladder continued to play well, with the top four players going a combined 15-1 in the four matches and are now 23-1 since resuming their schedule last week. The top three players, Ibrahim Bakir, Justin Singh and Binura Jayasuriya, did not lose a match all weekend.
Against Hobart, the top three plus Joey Gingold at No. 4 did not drop a set, winning each match 3-0. At No. 6, Nick DiDonato also won in straight sets, 14-12, 11-5, 11-3. Harshil Dokania, the CSA Player of the Week last week, won at No. 7 11-2, 11-4, 9-11, 11-4. Marc Radamaker finished off the victory with a win at No. 9, 11-4, 11-7, 11-5.
On Saturday, the Dragons traveled to Hamilton, where once again Bakir, Singh and Jayasuriya took care of business at the top of the ladder. While Singh and Jayasuriya won in straight sets, Bakir had a challenge at No. 1 this time, but came back from a 2-1 deficit to win in five, 11-8, 9-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5.
Also winning for Drexel was Ben Bevan, who went the distance at No. 5. Down 2-1 in the fourth set, Bevan won the set of the day to even things up and keep himself alive, pulling out a grueling, epic 19-17 decision. In the end, he won 11-8, 10-12, 9-11, 19-17, 11-7.
On Sunday, the Dragons dispatched of Northeastern with ease, winning 9-0. Again, the top of the Drexel ladder was perfect, with Bakir, Singh and Jayasuriya each winning their matches in three sets. Gingold bounced back from a 7-11 loss in the first set to win 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-6 at No. 4. Playing at No. 5, Bevan rebounded nicely from a tough 14-16 defeat in the first set to win, 14-16, 11-8, 11-7, 11-6. On the bottom of Drexel's ladder, Harshil Dokania, Kevin Sacherman, Paul Jamrogowicz and Will Heyman each won in straight sets to finish off the sweep.
The win over Siena was even more dominant, with Drexel winning 3-0 in all nine of its matches against the Saints. Jayasuriya, who won 11-7, 11-2, 11-1, improved his record to 6-0 with six 3-0 victories since the Dragons returned to action following the winter break. He played at the No. 1 position for the first time against Northeastern, as the reshuffled lineup nevertheless held Siena down.
