Wrestling Defeats Northern Colorado, 25-10

Fairfax, Va. – Drexel wrestling defeated Northern Colorado on Friday evening, 25-10, at the Mason Duals in Fairfax, Virginia. The Dragons secured wins in seven of the 10 bouts to earn their fifth victory of the season. Northern Colorado dropped to 0-2 in duals on the season.
The meet started out with the 197 bout in which Brandon Palik defeated Northern Colorado's Patrick Gomez 3-1 to take an early lead. The Bears came back in the 285 match to tie the score at 3-3, but then Jacob Goodwin answered with a 12-4 major decision over Jesse Meis to put the Dragons up 7-3. At 133, Clayton Lutzow dropped a close 3-2 decision to Sam Bauer to bring Northern Colorado within one point. However, the Bears would not come within striking distance after this point in the dual.
Frank Cimato, Noel Blanco, Kevin Matyas, and Bryan Sternlieb all added decisions and Shane Fenningham secured a win by forfeit to complete the dual. Going into the final match, the Dragons held a 12 point lead.
Drexel returns to the mats on January 13, when they will host Iowa State and North Carolina at the Daskalaskis Athletic Center for their third home meet of the season. The dual against Iowa State will kick off at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed by North Carolina at noon.
