
Men's Varsity Eight Wins Event at Head of the Charles Regatta

RESULTS
BOSTON, Mass. – Drexel University's men's varsity eight places first for the best finish in program history at the 2013 Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday afternoon. The women's second varsity eight also placed in the Top 10 earning sixth overall out of 29 entries. The women's varsity eight stopped the clock 24th adding to the Blue and Gold's success throughout the two-day regatta hosted on the Charles River.
The men's varsity eight posted the top-time of 15:22.279 for first-place out of 40 participating crews in the collegiate eights event. The winning Lois Krall shell featured coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Mikulas Sum, Ivo Krakic, Sebastian Ryan, Nicholas Capaldi, Ian Luetzow, John Pieper, Daniel Palombo and bow Dave Hanrahan. Michigan Rowing Association came in second followed by Univesity of Virginia's Rowing Association.
The women's varsity eight crossed the finish line at 18:02.131 placing 24th out of 39 entries. The Marlene Buckley II boat consisted of coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Olivia Babiec, Bridget Pfeifer, Kayla Wroblesky, Elizabeth Daugherty, Marina Forster, Samantha Cowan, Amanda Kleuser and bow Elise Levito. Cambridge registered first overall followed by USRowing, London Training Center and University of Virginia.
On Saturday, the women's second varsity eight posted a speedy time of 17:30.567 for sixth overall out of 29 crews. Sarah Messenger guided the Maria Papadakis boat with stroke Tori King, Emily Gartland, Barbara McKenna, Colleen Delaney, Amanda O'Malley, Alyssa Leahy, Stephanie Thomas and bow Julie McGlynn. Radcliffe Crew earned first followed by Brown, Riverside Boat Club, Community Rowing Inc. and Pocock Rowing Center.
Former Drexel men's rowers stopped the clock 37th overall in the alumni eight event. Assistant Coach David Florio coxed the shell featuring stroke Doug Allcorn, Liam O'Neill, Michael Golden, Brian Timlin, Mike Gartland, Anthony Fittipaldi, Gregg Francis and bow Michael Niles. Friends of Georgetown Rowing won the event followed by Cambridge Alumni, Northestern Alumni and Michigan Alumni.
