Charleston, S.C. – The Drexel women's soccer team concluded its season on Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over College of Charleston. The win brings the Dragons' record to 7-10-1, 3-5 CAA, while the Cougars move to 2-14-1, 0-7-1.
The Dragons struck early with a goal from sophomore Lauren Stollar in the sixth minute. Christine Stevenson sent a partially cleared corner kick back into the box to find Stollar who put the ball in the net for the Dragons' first goal of the game. Just five minutes later, senior Jess Sarkisian found the rebound of a shot by Stevenson and put it back to give the Dragons a 2-0 lead.
Drexel continued their attack with two shots from Megan Hammaker that couldn't find the net. Looking to retaliate, College of Charleston got their first shot off in the 21st minute but junior keeper Eve Badana made the save to keep the Cougars scoreless.
In the 23rd minute, the Dragons struck again as Stevenson drove the ball into the net off the rebound of an attempt by Andi Stampone. Less than eight minutes later, Drexel added another blow as freshman Nicolette Wilkins scored her first career goal off an assist from Shyanne Kimbrough to increase the Dragons' lead to 4-0.
As the first half winded down, College of Charleston made a run that resulted in a goal from Jade Reynolds. Reynolds scored off a free kick from Sarah Cardamone with less than two minutes remaining to get the Cougars on the board before halftime.
Despite seven shots from College of Charleston and two from Drexel, the score remained unchanged throughout the second half. The victory gave the Dragons their third conference win as they rounded out the regular season.
The Cougars edged out the Dragons on shots, 12-11, on the game. Junior keeper Eve Badana tallied three saves in her 83:22 minutes played, while sophomore Kelsie Fye picked up her first save of the season as she saw some minutes in the road match. College of Charleston split time between three goalies: Lauren Killian(3), Jena Mohr, and Taylor Avery(2) combined for five saves in the game.
