PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's soccer team fell to James Madison, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Vidas Field. The Dragons are now 4-8-1, 0-3 while the Dukes improve to 10-4, 2-1 on the season.
Both teams remained scoreless throughout the first half with the Dragons getting five shots off and the Dukes taking four. Junior keeper Eve Badana, who made one save on the half, had help from her teammates as the Dragons blocked two of the Dukes' four shots in the first 45.
James Madison opened scoring late in the second half as Ashley Herndon scored in the 76th minute to put the Dukes on the board first. The goal was scored off a quick restart as James Madison's Sydney Braun-McLeod sent a cross in to Ashley Herndon who was able to put it past Badana into the left side panel of the goal.
The Dukes added an insurance goal with under six minutes to play in regulation as Braun-McLeod drew Badana out of the goal to challenge the play. The freshman got around Badana and was able to put the ball in the net uncontested.
James Madison outshot Drexel 17-12. Badana tallied five saves in the losing effort while James Madison's Ellen Forrest recorded seven.
The Dragons return to the field on Friday night as they host Northeastern at 7:00 p.m. on Alumni Day.
