
Men's Crew Wins Three Events at the Frostbite Regatta

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – Drexel Crew recorded seven first-place finishes at the 2013 Frostbite Regatta, which marks the final competition of the fall season for the Blue and Gold. The women's team swept all four events, while the men won three races in the both men's varsity eight events as well as the freshmen eight race. Saturday's regatta also marked the squad's first sprint event of the year.
The top men's varsity eight crossed the finish line first in 6:01.61 outlasting Temple, Delaware's lightweight, Ithaca and Delaware's heavyweight respectively. Marc Smith guided the winning Lois Krall boat with stroke Sebastian Ryan, Ivo Krakic, Marco Durica, Nicholas Capaldi, Michael DiLucca, Dave Hanrahan, Mikulas Sum and bow Vanja Busic.
The men's varsity eight 'B' boat earned a top-time of 6:03.65 placing ahead of opposing crews from Delaware, Washington College, Loyola, La Salle and Stony Brook. The Vince Vidas shell was highlighted by coxswain Christopher Henderson, Dean Hill, Xavier Stanish, Daniel Palombo, Ryan Mallgrave, Mahmoud Shurbaji, John Pieper, Grigorios Papadourakis and bow Brian McCabe.
The men's freshmen eight 'B' boat also had a top-place finish with a winning-time of 6:47.41 against Delaware, Ithaca, Binghamton and Loyla. Jackson Beach coxed the winning Peggy Greenawalt boat along with stroke Tom Foulds, Nico Arechabala, Louis Masi, Aengus Walker, Keegan Shannon, Joe Masgai, Peter Raux and bow Nick Herceg.
The men's second varsity eight 'A' boat narrowly missed first-place finishing behind Temple with a second-place time of 7:17.06. The Owls had the winning time of 6:16.05. Coxswain Victoria Kenion guided the Joseph Greipp boat with stroke Christian Ladd, Daniel Dollin, Ryan McSpedon, Cameron Staines, James Byrne, Brian Kissam, Matt Gehret and bow Casimir Czworkowski.
The men's second varsity eight 'B' shell finished fourth overall with a time of 6:44.40 behind Washington College, La Salle and Ithaca respectively. The Antoinette Pennoni boat featuring coxswain Rio Monte, stroke Ethan McCulla, Leif Malm, Brian Tindall, Jake Murphy, Will Cartwright, John Deibler, Michael Scott and bow Eric Williams crossed the finish line ahead of Temple and Maryland.
On the women's side, the varsity eight 'A' shell stopped the clock at 7:05.58 for first-place overall against Philadelphia University, Lafayette, George Mason and Binsghamton respectively. The Marlene Buckley II shell was highlighted by coxswain Catherine Hamilton, bow Olivia Babiec, Bridget Pfeifer, Kayla Wroblesky, Samantha Cowan, Marina Forster, Elizabeth Daugherty, Amanda Kleuser and bow Colleen Delaney.
The women's varsity eight 'B' shell won its race in 7:14.00 finished ahead of George Mason, La Salle, The College of New Jersey and Haverford. sarah Messenger coxed the winning Maria Papadakis boat along with stroke Victoria King, Kendall Wenzke, Taylor Brady, Elise Levito, Amanda O'Malley, Alyssa Leahy, Stephanie Thomas and bow Julie McGlynn against opposing crews from The College of New Jersey, La Salle, Haverford and George Mason.
The final women's varsity eight 'C' boat also captured first-place with the best time of 7:33.90 versus opposing crews from La Salle and George Mason. The Marlene Buckley boat featured coxswain Abigail Colasacco, stroke Barbara McKenna, Lauren Sand, Sierra Baca, Mercedes Barr, Chelsea Cohen, Christina Alleva, Crystal Xu and bow Julia Iannucci.
The women's novice four had a speedy finish over Lafayette, Loyola, Scranton and SUNY Maritime posting a first-place time of 8:47.17. The winning Dawn Byers boat consisted of coxswain Nupur Parikh, stroke Hannah Devlin, Molly Dudrear, Jenna O'Toole and bow Eugenia Chalbaud Santeliz.
