Wrestling Defeats South Dakota State, 26-10

Brookings, S.D. - The Drexel wrestling team defeated South Dakota State, 26-10, on Saturday afternoon after taking 7 of 10 matches from the Jackrabbits. With the victory, the Dragons improve to 1-2 thus far on the season.
The dual started at 157 as Austin Sommer got the Dragons on the board with a decision over South Dakota State's Cody Pack. The Jackrabbits took the next two matches to go ahead in the overall scoring, 6-3. Freshman Alex DeCiantis followed with a 6-4 decision at 184 to tie the competition up at 6-6.
Drexel then went on a run, winning the next five matches to take a 26-6 lead with a major decision from senior Brandon Palik, a 6-2 decision from Jamie Callender, a tech fall each from Kevin Devoy Jr and David Pearce, as well as a 6-5 decision from Matthew Cimato. Shane Fenningham fell in the final match of the day to South Dakota State's Alex Kocer, but the Dragons still came up victorious with a final score of 26-10.
Next up, the Drexel wrestling squad will head to Ypsilanti, Michigan on Saturday, November 16, to compete in the Eastern Michigan Open. The Dragons will face opponents Ohio, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Michigan State over the course of the day. The first match is set to begin at 10 a.m. and they will continue throughout the day with the final matchup coming at 2:30 p.m.
