WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Drexel women's basketball team went cold at an inopportune time on Sunday afternoon at American, falling to the host Eagles, 47-41. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Dragons, who went more than 10 minutes without a field goal in the second half after briefly taking a two-point lead.

Sarah Curran led Drexel with nine points, while Meghan Creighton and Rachel Pearson each added eight. Fiona Flanagan pulled down 12 rebounds. Alexis Dobbs was the only player in double figures on the afternoon, putting up 17 for the Eagles.

Both teams started off hot, each shooting over 50 percent more than halfway through the first half as Drexel trailed 18-16. American held a 27-20 lead at the break, but Drexel recovered after halftime and pushed back to take a 33-31 lead with 14:30 to play.

The Eagles responded with the next 13 points of the game to take a lead they would not relinquish. Flanagan hit two free throws to end a long scoreless drought, with a jumper with just under four minutes to play ending the field goal skid. Drexel's defense kept the Dragons in the game, and they cut it back to a two-possession contest in the final minutes. However, American responded on the defensive end and kept Drexel from getting any closer than five points despite several good looks from the Dragons from long range.

Drexel shot just 4-of-21 from three-point range on the day, and finished 17-of-55 (30.9 percent) from the floor after its hot start.

The Dragons will now have a week off before getting back in action at St. John's on Saturday. Drexel will take on the Red Storm on Saturday followed by a tilt against Prairie View on Sunday in the St. John's holiday tournament.
