Men's and Women's Tennis Defeats Morgan State

PHILADELPHIA - Both the men's and women's tennis teams defeated Morgan State at the Drexel Armory. The women battled to a 4-2 decision, and improved 5-0 on the season. The men finished 5-2 for the win, improving their record to 3-1.
In doubles play for the women, Zeynep Mafa and Marcela Rosales ended their match with an 8-4 decision, and moved 6-0 on the season. Their win also gave the Dragons the doubles point, after the Bears forfeited their No. 3 position.
Morgan State dropped its No. 6 and gave Amanda Tilles the win by default. Nicole Pivonka brought home a win in singles when she defeated Chelsi Russell, 6-2, 6-2. Pivonka showed smooth movement, and fast footwork helped her finish points quickly. Bell used aggressive play to dominate her match in straight sets, going 6-0, 6-3.
On the men's side, Badr Ouabdelmoumen and Skyler Davis took the Bears 8-4 and picked up their third consecutive win as the No.1 pair. Xabier Saavedra and Dan Koehler also defeated Morgan State in an 8-3 decision to give Drexel the doubles point. Each team exhibited well-placed first serves and an aggressive net game that helped them hold serve.
During singles competition, Oubdelmoumen and Alex Fioravante won both of their matches in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, and 6-2, 6-0, respectively. Oubdelmoumen used speedy returns and endurance to outplay his opponent. Koehler's impressive net game and strategic positioning helped give him the win 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, while teammate Saavedra used high energy and powerful ground strokes to go 6-4, 1-6, 6-0, for the victory.
The Drexel women return to action Saturday, February 16 at 11:00 a.m. when they take on St. Francis (Pa) at home. The men return to the court on Friday, February 15 as they head to Temple for an 11:00 a.m. match.
