Men's and Women's Tennis Drop Matches at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Drexel men's and women's tennis teams will return home after tough losses to Navy. The men lost their match in a 4-1 decision and are now 5-3 on the season. The women were defeated 4-3 and drop 6-2 overall.
Drexel's No. 1 and No. 3 positions for mens doubles were defeated, 8-5, 8-4, respecitvely. Teammates Dan Koehler and Xabier Saavedra held on for the Dragons but ended their match unfinished, giving the Midshipmen the doubles point.
In singles competition, No. 6 Alex Fioravante picked up Drexel's only win of the match, going, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0. Fioravante's fast footwork was key in his success. Badr Ouabdelmoumen and Xabier Saavedra did not finish their matches, but each held the lead at the end of play.
On the women's side, Drexel dominated doubles as teammates Zeynep Mafa and Marcela Rosales used depth to help close the net and take their match 8-6. Nicole Pivonka and Emma Brook moved in unison and with ease to end with an 8-6 victory.
The Dragon's began singles play with a win from Mafa, 6-3, 6-1. Mafa used aggressiveness to finish her match in two sets. No. 2 Pivonka used consistent play to finish her match, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, for the win.

The men return to the court on Saturday, March 16 as they take on Hofsta away. The women will be back on Saturday, March 3 for a home match against George Washington.
