Women's Tennis Brings Home The Win Against St. Peter's

Drexel's doubles play proved yet again to be one of the Dragon's greatest strengths. Teammates Zeynep Mafa and Marcela Rosales continue to dominate play in the number one position, as they are currently 4-0 on the season. Both women used communication and proper positioning to end the match with an 8-1 mark. At the second doubles, Nicole Pivonka and Emma Brook teamed up for their first doubles competition of the season together. Both women's height, aggressiveness, and swift movement on the court made it easy for the to close the net and finish the match 8-4. At number 3, Alex Bell and Aysenil Orhon were able to pick up momentum and execute for the overall win, 8-5.
In singles play, Mafa started the Dragons off with an impressive comeback and victory. She was down 5-2 but managed to maneuver her opponent in her favor for a 7-5, 6-2 finish. Mafa did well holding serve in the second set and her return was key to helping her take control of the match and put points away. At No. 3, Bell won her match in straight sets. Bell's high percentage tennis was her strength as she opened up the court and used her volleys to close in and win. Playing at No. 4, Pivonka also won took her match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Her aggressive deep groundstrokes were very heavy and allowed her to keep points short and put pressure on her opponent. Playing her first match of the season, senior Brook took home a win in the No. 5 position for Drexel. The strength of her serve and forehand showed her maturity as an athlete. Brook returned to the court after sustaining a knee injury. At No. 6, Aysenil Orhon finished her match in two quick sets going 6-1, 6-0. A confident Orhon, displayed a heavy top spin forehand and a flat deep backhand.
