HAVERFORD, Pa. - Binura Jayasuriya earned his first collegiate victory at the top spot on Drexel's ladder as the men's squash team visited Haverford and collected a 9-0 victory on Wednesday night. The freshman was one of eight Dragons to earn 3-0 match victories, playing just his second match at the No. 1 position in the lineup.
Jayasuriya won his match in straight sets, 11-3, 11-1, 11-5. That topped a perfect outing for the Dragons, who displayed typically strong play from the top of their ladder, but also saw that consistency run through its lineup all the way to No. 9.
Ibrahim Bakir, playing at No. 2, dispatched of Peter Boal 11-7, 11-5, 11-0. Joey Gingold handled Chris Tyson at No. 3, 11-7, 11-3, 11-3. The match at No. 4 was the only one of the day not to end in straight sets, as Ben Bevan took four to dispatch of Nate Shade, bouncing back from a setback in the first to win 8-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8.
Harshil Dokania won at No. 5, 11-7, 11-3, 11-8. Kevin Sacherman downed Laurenson Ward at No. 6, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6.
The most dramatic set of the day came at No. 7, where Marc Radermaker saw his first set extended to 14-12 before he could pull it out. He went on to win the next two, 11-7, 11-7, to finish off Jon Nguyen. The match at No. 8 went to Paul Jamrogowicz, 11-4, 11-8, 11-7, while Will Heyman rounded things out at No. 9, 11-4, 11-5, 11-3.
Drexel will return to action on Friday night at the Kline & Specter Squash Center, where the Dragons will take on Colgate at 7:00 p.m.
