Women's Second Varsity Wins Bronze Medal at the Knecht Cup

Cherry Hill, N.J. - Drexel Crew advanced 11 shells to final day of competition at the 2013 Knecht Cup. The women's varsity four won the petite final. The women's varsity eight finished second in the third final, while the women's second varsity eight secured a bronze medal in the grand final. The women's novice eight also took fourth place in the grand final. The men's varsity eight, second varsity eight and novice eight won gold medals in the grand finals. The men's top varsity four and men's varsity pair earned bronze medals. The men's novice four finished fourth and the men's second varsity four placed fifth in the petite final.
The women's second varsity eight won a bronze medal in the grand final with a third-place time of 6:51.65. Northeastern crossed he finish line first at 6:47.20 along with second-place Kansas at 6:48.02. The Maria Papadakis featured coxswain Catherine Hamilton, stroke Elizabeth Campanella, Emily Gartland, Olivia Babiec, Sierra Baca, Kayla Wroblesky, Alyssa Leahy, Tori King and bow Elise Levito. The Dragons outlasted Boston College, Bucknell and Massachusetts.
The women's varsity eight crossed the finish line behind Old Dominion for a second-place finish in the third final. The Monarchs posted a winning time of 6:52.18 followed by the Dragons at 6:57.83. Kerry Walsh will cox the Marlene Buckley II shell with stroke Julia Jackson, Elizabeth Daugherty, Jayme Batcher, Mollie Cusack, Amanda O'Malley, Bridget Pfeifer, Amanda Kleuser and bow Colleen Delaney past George Mason, Rutgers, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
The women's novice eight finished fourth overall with a time of 7:07.78 in the grand final. Wisconsin's lightweight posted the fastest time stopping the clock at 6:58.10. Boston College came in second-place with a time of 7:00.97 followed by North Carolina. Rachel Bowen guided the Marlene Buckley boat stroke Rose Ehrlich, Julie McGlynn, Caitlin Bubel, Rebecca McCool, Jordan Marinchak, Elisabeth Wagner, Taylor Brady and bow Kate Wilcheck past Alabama and Bucknell.
The women's varsity four placed first in the petite final with a time of 7:59.21. The Marlene Buckley II shell included coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Julia Jackson, Elizabeth Daugherty, Jayme Batcher, Mollie Cusack, Amanda O'Malley, Bridget Pfeifer, Amanda Kleuser and bow Colleen Delaney. New Hampshire stopped the clock at 8:03.10 followed by Massachusetts at 8:06.50. Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Temple followed for fourth, fifth and sixth-place respectively.
The men's varsity eight won the grand final with a first-place time of 5:56.77. Marc Smith coxed the winning Lois Krall boat with stroke Kurt Linton, Vanja Busic, Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Sebastian Ryan, John Pieper, Michael Faust and bow Casimir Czworkowski. Hobart placed second with a time of 6:00.61 followed by Delaware at 6:01.29. Temple, Trinity and Marist took fourth, fifth and sixth-place respectively.
The men's second varsity eight captured a gold medal in the grand final stopping the clock first at 6:07.10. The Joseph Greipp boat featured coxswain Victoria Kenion, stroke Marko Durica, Milos Rujevic, James Byrne, Ryan Mallgrave, Ian Luetzow, Christian Ladd, Grigorios Papadourakis and bow Brian McCabe. Temple finished second with a time of 6:09.34, while Trinity took third at 6:12.00. The Dragons also placed ahead of Hobart, Bucknell and Boston College.
The men's novice eight won the grand final with a top-time of 5:59.48. Christopher Henderson coxed the Vince Vidas boat with stroke Daniel Dollin, Mikulas Sum, Nicholas Capaldi, Michael DiLucca, Dave Hanrahan, Daniel Palombo, Daniel Pyle and bow Lawrence Lindawan. Boston College won a silver medal with a time of 6:08.43 followed by Trinity with a time of 6:11.38. Drexel also crossed the finish line before Lehigh, Rutgers and Delaware.
The men's varsity four 'A' shell earned a bronze medal in the grand final with a third-place time of 6:51.53. George Mason clocked in at 6:46.16 for first-place. Rollins came in third with a time of 6:50.52. The LeBow College of Business boat included coxswain Diana Fox, stroke Mahmoud Shurbaji, Jake Murphy, Ryan McSpedon and bow Matt Gehret. Together, the Dragons rowed past Lehigh, Philadelphia and Penn State.
The men's varsity pair won a bronze medal with a time of 7:24.85 in the final. Villanova had the fastest time of 7:14.94 along with second-place finisher Philadelphia at 7:23.49. Timothy Drake and bow Cameron Staines guided the Julia Grace boat past Maryland, Carnegie Mellon and NY Maritime.
