McArdle Named CAA Preseason Player of the Year

RICHMOND, Va. – Senior co-captain Lindsay McArdle has been named the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association field hockey preseason Player of the Year released by the league on Thursday afternoon. Last year, McArdle led the team in scoring and helped Drexel win the field hockey program's first CAA Championship title.
The Upper Darby, Pa. native started in all 22 games for the Dragons last season finishing with a team-high 12 goals and recorded three assists for 27 points overall. She was named First Team All-CAA and received CAA All-Tournament Team honors. McArdle was also a Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mid-Atlantic Region first-team selection.
Sophomores Lauren Hibshman, Danielle Grassi and Jenna Knouse were also selected to the 2013 preseason field hockey team. Hibshman became the first Drexel field hockey freshman to receive two all-conference awards during her debut season, where she earned Second Team All-CAA and CAA All-Rookie honors. Hibshman had three assists and tallied one goal last season. Grassi and Knouse were also CAA All-Rookie picks in 2012. Senior co-captain Kristen Focht and junior goalkeeper Jantien Gunter were honorable mentions.
The 2013 Drexel field hockey team opens the season on Saturday, August 31 at 3:00 p.m. against Indiana on Duke's campus. The Dragons will face the Blue Devils at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
