Pachuilo's Hat Trick Sends Field Hockey Past Kent State, 6-1

KENT, Ohio - Chloe Pachuilo netted a hat trick and Rachel Sumfest added two scores and an assist as the Drexel field hockey team defeated Kent State on Thursday afternoon, 6-1. Elise DiDonato added four assists for the Dragons (4-2), who won for the third time in their last four games.

Pachuilo's three goals were the first three of her collegiate career. Jantien Gunter put together eight saves to keep the Golden Flashes from mounting a threat to Drexel's strongest offensive showing since September 5, 2012 when they defeated UC Davis 6-0.

Sumfest got the scoring underway for the Dragons 15:30 into the contest when she took a feed from Danielle Grassi and beat Kent State goalie Jahna Jordan. Less than three minutes later, the Dragons were up 2-0 when DiDonato pushed it off to Pachuilo.

Pachuilo's goal was the first of her career and came on just her third shot of 2013. She has appeared in all six games after seeing action in 21 contests last year.

Lindsey McArdle scored to give Drexel a 3-0 lead with 4:41 remaining in the first half, once again finishing a set up off the stick of DiDonato.

Kent State's lone goal came off a corner as the first half expired. Inserted by Sabrina Binder, the ball was stopped by Alyssa McFerren and struck by Julia Hofman. Coming after the horn had sounded the end of the first half, it was one of nine shots on goal by the Golden Flashes on the day and the only one to beat Gunter.

Coming out of halftime, DiDonato kept finding her teammates for strong looks at the goal. She set up Sumfest in the 42nd minute to push Drexel's lead back to three at 4-1, and fed Pachuilo with 20:30 to play for the sophomore's second goal of the afternoon. Pachuilo wrapped up the scoring when Sumfest dished it off to her in the 56th minute of play.

Drexel will remain in Ohio and will take on its third top-10 opponent of 2013 on Saturday afternoon. The Dragons will take on No. 10 Iowa at noon that day, on the campus of Kent State.
