Swimming and Diving Sweep Howard at Home

PHILADELPHIA- The men's and women's swimming and diving swept today's meet against Howard at Drexel Pool. The men defeated the Bison 209-45, and the women 190-37.
The Dragons began the day by sweeping both the women's and men's 200 relay. Members of the first place squad with a time of 1:51.30, included Therese Mastrandrea, Rachel Bernhardt, Emily Lau, Claudia Duguay. In second, with a time of 1:52.02, Katie Duggan, Rebecca Heffernan, Brianna Bentz, and Sara Golshahr. The third place finishers, Gizem Yali, Jessica Gidzinski, Tina DeRusso, and Aubrey Murray rounded out wins with a time of 1:54:50. For the men, John Quagliariello, Chad Schmidt, Mike Krohn, and Ivo Pejovic took first in 1:37.03, followed by Alex Bagshaw, Andrew Reimon, Kyle Lukens, and Alex Chialastri in second with a time of 1:37.13. Finally, Joel Berryman, Gregory Oprendek, Sean Swartz, and Brian Woo closed it out for the Dragons with a time of 1:37.63.
On the women's side, Bentz took the first place finish in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.92. Next up, Murray took the 100 back touching the wall at the 59.48 mark. In the 100 breast, Gidzinski finished in first with a time of 1:10.50. Heffernan out-swam the only Bison competitor in the 200 fly with a time of 2:20.90. Bernhardt won her first individual win in the 50 free in, 24.80. In the next event, Bernhardt came back for another first place finish in the 100 free with a time of 54.98. Yali took first in the 200 back in 2:12.38. Another victory came from Lau in the 200 breast when she stopped the clock in 2:33.07. Gidzinski won her second individual swim in the 500 free with a time of 5:30.02. In the 100 fly, Murray finished in 1:00.38, taking home first place. Bentz came back for her second individual win as well in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.41.
For the men, In the 1650 free, Zoltan Gercsak grabbed the top finish with a time of 16:44.99, followed by teammate Matthew Klotz who stopped the clock at 17:21.99. In the 200 free, Lukens swam to first with a 1:45.37. Next up, Berryman took first in the 100 back with a sweeping 52.30. Woo won his first individual swim as a Dragon when he took first place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.02. Pejovic also won his first event as a Dragon in the 200 fly touching the wall at 2:01.83. In the 50 free, Bagshaw took home the win in 21.77. In the next event, Schmidt stopped the clock in 49.10 and took first in the 100 free. Lukens came back again for a second individual win in the 200 back with a time of 1:59.29. In the 200 breast, Reimon swept the competition in 2:15.57. Followed by Chialastri, who won the 500 free in 4:56.05. Schmidt won his second individual swim in the 100 fly touching the wall at 53.72. Gercsak finished the men's individuals in first place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.57.
Drexel closed the meet by sweeping the 200 free In the final relay swims of the day. The women's first place squad finished in 1:45.54. The men's first place squad closed the day with a time of 1:30.54.
The Dragons will return to the pool on Saturday, January 25 when they head to Georgetown.
