Palik Places Eighth As Wrestling Concludes Competition at Southern Scuffle

Final Results
Chattanooga, Tenn. – The Drexel wrestling team concluded competition at the Southern Scuffle on Thursday and senior Brandon Palik earned an eighth place finish in the prestigous tournament. Palik finished competition with a medical forfeit that prevented him from continuing.
Palik's two wins over Army's Bryce Barnes and Duke's Conner Hartmann at 197 highlighted day one of competition for the Dragons. Noel Blanco also earned his ticket to day two in the wrestlebacks at 149. Blanco fell to Matthew Frisch of The Citadel in the first round but then defeated North Carolina's Walker Fulk and Bucknell's Victor Lopez to advance in the tournament.
Competition continued on Thursday as Palik fell to #2 Kyven Gadson of Iowa State but then defeated Central Michigan's Jackson Lewis in his first match of wrestlebacks to advance to the placing rounds. Palik then went on to forfeit by injury default 1:35 into his match against Morgan McIntosh of Penn State to finish in eighth place on the tournament.
Blanco, who also moved onto day two of competition, put up a tough fight but lost a 2-1 decision to Christia Barber of North Carolina in double overtime.
The Dragons will be back in action as they open their home season against Binghamton at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on January 19 at 2:00 p.m.
