Drexel Tennis Sweeps Sunday Competition in Fall Finale

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel Tennis swept its competition Sunday at Vidas Courts in the final matches of the fall season. The men beat Saint Peter's, 5-2, and Rider, 7-0, while the women beat Rider, 7-0.
The Dragons began with the men's match against Saint Peter's at 1 p.m. after Alumni Day events in the morning. Head coach Mehdi Rhazali's group won five out of six singles matches and added a win in doubles. Xabier Saavedra, Dan Koehler, Kashyap Ashok, Hamza Laalej and Vuk Subotic all picked up victories in singles play.
In doubles, Ashok teamed up with Saavedra to grab the 8-1 victory.
Later in the afternoon, both Drexel's men's and women's teams took on Rider at 4 p.m. and each swept the six singles and three doubles matches they played.
The Dragons' women did not drop a set against Rider and picked up wins from Nicole Pivonka, Erin Bowsher, Clary Rodriguez Cruz, Ryshena Providence, Kendra Bunch and Lea Winkler in singles play.
In doubles, the impressive duo of Pivonka and Rodriguez Cruz picked up yet another victory to finish the fall slate off in style. The Dragons also picked up doubles wins from the pairs of Bowsher and Providence as well as Bunch and Winkler.
The men also picked up a sweep over Rider in a match where they did not drop a set. In singles play, Saavedra, Koehler, Ashok, Laalej and Subotic all picked up another win for the day, and Alex Fioravante also got on the board with a win.
In doubles play, Saavedra and Ashok picked up another victory for the day, and the duos of Fioravante and Koehler as well as Hansen and Subotic also came out victorious.
Drexel's men's and women's each finished the fall season with 2-0 marks in head-to-head matchups. Both teams will return to the court for the start of the spring season in late January.
