Men's Crew Completes Pennsylvania Invitational

On Friday, the Drexel and Penn's men's third varsity eights will open up racing for the day. Penn finished with a time of 7:10.2, and Drexel followed with a 7:24.7. The Vince Vidas boat was led by coxswain Victoria Kenion, with stroke, Mahmoud Shurbaki, Cameron Staines, James Byrne, Matt Gehret, Brian Kissam, Christian Ladd, Grigorious Papadourakis, and bow Leif Malm.
In the second race of the day, the freshmen eight, Drexel entered two boats. Penn finished in first with a, 7:19.6. Drexel's freshmen eight "A" boat followed with a, 7:41.7, and the "B" boat in 7:50.0. The freshmen eight "A" was in the Annette Pennoni boat, led by coxswain Brett Barry, with stroke Adam Wisniowski, George Twardy, John Ruskey, Joseph Masgai, John Deibler, Louis Masi, Dan Capone, and bow Jim Howley.
The freshmen eight "B" squad was in the Peggy Greenawalt boat. Coxswain Tyler Lee will lead stroke Keegan Shannon, Jim Purtill, Thomas Foulds, Aengus Walker, Nicholas Areachabala, Nicholas Herceg, Harison Betz, and bow Nicholas Hitti.
Drexel's second varsity eight raced at 2:30 p.m. in the Joseph Greipp boat. Penn took the top finish with a time of 6:56.5, and Drexel came in behind with a, 7:16.5. The boat was guided by coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Dan Dollin, Xavier Stanish, Ryan McSpedon, Dave Hanrahan, Mike DiLucca, Casimir Czworkowski, Dan Palombo, and bow Brian McCabe.
As winds picked up, the final race of the day was held at 2:50 p.m. and featured the varsity eight. Unfortunately, Drexel did not finish the race because they were forced to bail water from the boat. The Lois Krall boat was led by coxswain Christopher Henderson, with stroke Mikulas Sum, Vanja Busic, Sebastian Ryan, John Pieper, Ian Luetzow, Ryan Mallgrave, Marko Durica, and bow Ivo Krakic.
The Dragons kicked off Saturday's competition against George Washington at 9:10 a.m. George Washington grabbed the top time of 5:51.3, followed by the Dragons with a 6:08.0.The freshmen eight controlled the Annette Pennoni boat, guided by coxswain Brett Barry, with stroke Adam Wisniowski, George Twardy, John Ruskey, Joseph Masgai, John Deibler, Louis Masi, Dan Capone, and bow Jim Howley.
At 9:30 a.m., the second and third varsity eights took to the water. The second varsity boat took home the win with a 5:49.0. The Joseph Greipp boat featured coxswain Marc Smith, with stroke Dan Dollin, Xavier Stanish, Ryan McSpedon, Dave Hanrahan, Mike DiLucca, Casimir Czworkowski, Dan Palombo, and bow Brian McCabe.
The third varsity eight snatched a time of 6:27.8, just below George Washington's, 5:49.4. The team was in the Vince Vidas boat and led by coxswain Victoria Kenion, with stroke, Mahmoud Shurbaki, Cameron Staines, James Byrne, Matt Gehret, Brian Kissam, Christian Ladd, Grigorious Papadourakis, and bow Leif Malm.
In the third race of the day, Drexel's varsity eight took second place with a time of 5:39.0. George Washington landed a time of, 5:37.0. The Lois Krall boat was led by coxswain Christopher Henderson, with stroke Mikulas Sum, Vanja Busic, Sebastian Ryan, John Pieper, Ian Luetzow, Ryan Mallgrave, Marko Durica, and bow Ivo Krakic.
The last morning race of the day featured the second freshmen eight. George Washington grabbed the top time of 6:06.2, and Drexel came in at, 6:16.0. The second freshmen eight squad was in the Peggy Greenawalt boat. Coxswain Tyler Lee led stroke Keegan Shannon, Jim Purtill, Thomas Foulds, Aengus Walker, Nicholas Areachabala, Nicholas Herceg, Harison Betz, and bow Nicholas Hitti.
Afternoon competition against Northeastern commenced at 2:10 p.m. with the fourth and fifth varsity eights. Both boats landed times under Northeastern.The fourth varsity eight grabbed a time of, 6:18.5, and was in the Annette Pennoni boat, led by coxswain Brett Barry, with stroke Adam Wisniowski, George Twardy, John Ruskey, Joseph Masgai, John Deibler, Louis Masi, Dan Capone, and bow Jim Howley.
The fifth varsity eight took third place in the race in, 6:34.2. The team was in the Peggy Greenawalt boat. Coxswain Tyler Lee led stroke Keegan Shannon, Jim Purtill, Thomas Foulds, Aengus Walker, Nicholas Areachabala, Nicholas Herceg, Harrison Betz, and bow Nicholas Hitti.
At 2:30 p.m. the third varsity eight took on Northeastern in the Vince Vidas boat. The Dragons took second with a time of 6:25.1. The boat was led by coxswain Victoria Kenion, with stroke, Mahmoud Shurbaki, Cameron Staines, James Byrne, Matt Gehret, Brian Kissam, Christian Ladd, Grigorious Papadourakis, and bow Leif Malm.
The second varsity eight took to the water at 2:50 p.m. in the Joseph Greipp boat and captured a second place finish with a time of 5:50.4. The squad featured coxswain Marc Smith, with stroke Dan Dollin, Xavier Stanish, Ryan McSpedon, Dave Hanrahan, Mike DiLucca, Casimir Czworkowski, Dan Palombo, and bow Brian McCabe.
The final race of the weekend featured the varsity eight. The Dragons finished second, stopping the clock at 5:49.9. The Lois Krall boat was led by coxswain Christopher Henderson, with stroke Mikulas Sum, Vanja Busic, Sebastian Ryan, John Pieper, Ian Luetzow, Ryan Mallgrave, Marko Durica, and bow Ivo Krakic.
The men's team will be back on the water on Saturday, April 5 as they take on Washington and Oregon State in Seattle, Washington.
