
Crew Wins Bergen and Kelly Cups for Third Straight Year

PHILADELPHIA -- Drexel's men's and women's varsity eights won the Bergen and Kelly Cups for the third straight year on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pa. For the men, it is their fourth straight Bergen Cup win, while the women took home the Kelly Cup for the fifth time in six years to beat their city rivals.
The men's freshmen eight then promptly beat Saint Joseph's in a head-to-head match-up, finishing with a time of 6:07.2 in the Vince Vidas boat.
When the men's freshmen four finished their race in the Dawn Byers boat, they found themselves in second place with a 6:47.4 time, edged narrowly by Temple.
Drexel raced two boats in the men's varsity four race with the "A" boat in the LeBow College of Business and the "B" boat in the Toby & Kim Oxholm. The Dragons' "B" boat finished in second place with a time of 6:47.5, while the "A" boat finished in third place with a time of 7:00.5.
The Dragons raced two men's second varsity eight boats, with the "A" boat winning with a 6:02.9 time and the "B" boat finsihing in third at 6:28.9.
For the fourth straight year, Drexel's men's varsity eight won the Bergen Cup. They did so with a sub-six minute time of 5:54.9, winning by almost ten seconds, in the Lois Krall boat.
Drexel women's freshmen eight began the day of racing in the Marlene Buckley boat, finishing third with a time of 6:58.5 and less than six seconds behind first place finisher Villanova.
Drexel's women's varsity four B took to the water and finished in fourth place with a final time of 7:38.7, racing in the Sandra Lee Sheller boat.
The women's varsity four was edged by Temple, finishing in second place and crossing the finish line at the 7:41.9 mark in the Sandra Lee Sheller boat.
When the eights returned to the water, Drexel's women's second varsity eight paced the competition, finishing first with a time of 6:49.6 in the Maria Papadakis boat.
Drexel's women's varsity eight took home the Kelly Cup for the fifth time in six years with a winning time of 6:46.6 in the Marlene Buckley II boat. Their win also capped the third straight year that Drexel has won both the Bergen and Kelly Cups.
The Dragons will return to the water at the prestigious Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta on May 9 and 10 on the Schulykill River in Philadelphia, Pa. where they look to defend their 2013 title.

The Dragons raced two men's second varsity eight boats, with the "A" boat winning with a 6:02.9 time and the "B" boat finsihing in third at 6:28.9.
