Philadelphia, Pa. - The Drexel women's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to five games as they defeated UNCW, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Vidas Field.
The first half showcased strong defense from both teams. Despite seven shots from UNCW and six from Drexel, the Dragons and Seahawks went into halftime with the game remaining scoreless. The Dragons broke the game's scoreless streak in the 78th minute when Alyssa Findlay served a direct kick to Melissa Chapman in the box, who headed the ball into the left side of the net. The goal, Chapman's second of the season, would prove to be the game-winner in the Dragons' fourth consecutive shutout.
With the win, the Dragons improve to 5-5-1 and 2-0 in conference play. The Seahawks also move to 5-5-1, but they are now 0-2 in CAA action. Overall, the Seahawks outshot the Dragons, 14-9. Drexel goalkeeper Kelsie Fye, who has gone 439 minutes without allowing a goal, made six saves in the victory while UNCW's Carolyn Huddy recorded four.
The Dragons returns to action on Saturday when they will host CAA rival Delaware at Vidas Field at 1:00 p.m.
