Lee's 32 Points Not Enough as UNCW Defeats Drexel, 64-57

Wilmington, N.C. — Damion Lee tied a season-high with 32 points, but the Dragons fell to UNCW, 64-57, in a game Saturday night in the Trask Coliseum. UNCW shot 58 percent from the floor in the second half and made 10 of its 12 free throws in the second half to earn the win. UNCW is now 8-7 overall and 3-1 in CAA play. The Dragons fell to 1-3 in league play and 3-12 overall.
Drexel trailed by four points with 13:35 to play before UNCW extended the lead with and 8-2 run. Cedrick Williams scored four of UNCW's point during the run to make it a 44-34 game. The Dragons got to within six points with 1:54 remaining on a Tavon Allen three-pointer, but UNCW nine of its 10 free throws in the final 2:06 to preserve the win.
Lee was again dominating in defeat for the visitors. He made 10 of his 15 shots and was 12-for-15 from the line. His 32 points tied his season-high set against USC in the Charleston Classic. However, Lee was the only Dragon with more than eight points in the game. Rashann London had eight points, including a three-pointer as time expired. The Dragons forced the Seahawks into 16 turnovers which led to 16 points.
UNCW was led by Freddie Jackson, who scored 19 points. He was 5-for-9 from the field and also had three steals. Addison Spruill had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Seahawks finished the game shooting .524 from the field.
The teams played a foul-plagued first half. There were 24 fouls called in the half, and only 19 field goals combined between the two teams. The Dragons had an outstanding half from Lee, but the rest of the offense struggled. Only Lee had more than one field goal in the first half. The junior was 6-for-7 from the floor and led Drexel with 20 points. UNCW shot 48 percent in the half as Jackson scored 11 points, seven of them from the line.
The Dragons return home to face James Madison on Thursday. The Dukes and Dragons tip at 7 p.m. at the Daskalakis Athletic Center in a game that can be seen live on The Comcast Network.
