Men’s Squash Defeats F&M, UVa in Strong Start to 2015-16 Season

PHILADELPHIA – In the 2015-16 season opener, the Drexel men's squash team (2-0) defeated both the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats, 8-1, and the Virginia Cavaliers, 9-0, at the Kline & Specter Squash Center in the Daskalakis Athletic Center at Drexel University. The men demonstrated a strong start to the campaign, dropping only one of 18 matches on Saturday in the home opener.
DREXEL SWEEPS VIRGINIA, 9-0
The Drexel men won every match in three games against Virginia on Saturday evening, earning a 9-0 victory.
Freshman Omar El Atmas, freshman Bransten Ming and sophomore Luke Willemse swept the top three positions, respectively.
Senior Ibrahim Bakir earned two three-game victories on the day with the second coming against Henry Woodworth of Virginia, 11-1, 11-8, 11-4. Junior Michael Thompson, who played from the sixth positon, also won each of his matches in straight games.
After earning a hard fought four-game victory against Franklin & Marshall, sophomore Atticus Kelly swept Stewart Stunton of UVa, 11-5, 1-2, 11-6, in his second match of the day.
After playing in the eighth spot in the morning, Joey Gingold moved into the seventh and defeated UVa's Max Novick, 11-4, 11-9, 11-6. Sophomore Cillian Dunne also moved from the ninth to eighth position for the Virginia match, defeating Conner Ward, 11-8, 12-10, 11-2.
Junior Nat Fry won in the ninth position for the Dragons, 11-6, 11-3, 11-1, over Campbell Goodman.

Revenging a 5-4 loss to the Diplomats in last year's season opener, the Dragons cruised to the home-opening victory on Saturday.
Drexel freshman Omar El Atmas played from the number one position and defeated Franklin & Marshall's Cole Osborne in four games, 11-8, 8-11, 11-4, 11-3, to secure the match.
Drexel's number two, freshman Bransten Ming, also won his match in four sets over Pedro Veiga De Almeida, 11-7, 9-11, 11-5, 11-7.
Junior Luke Willemse, in the number three position, and Cillian Dunne, in the number nine spot, both went the distance, earning five-game wins.
Senior Ibrahim Bakir played from the number four position for the Dragons and claimed a three-game sweep over Sean Kenny, 11-2, 11-5, 11-8. Drexel's number six junior Michael Thompson also won in straight games, defeating Jackson McCord, 11-7, 11-9, 11-6.
Sophomore Atticus Kelly, in the fifth spot, and senior Joey Gingold, in the eighth spot, also opened the 2015-16 campaign with victories.
