PHILADELPHIA - The No. 13 Drexel women's squash team (4-1) dropped its first match of the season on Tuesday evening to the No. 3 Penn Quakers (2-0) by a final score of 9-0 from the Ringe Squash Courts on Penn's Campus.
Penn marked the first top-ten ranked team that the Dragons faced this season. Drexel defeated No. 16 Franklin & Marshall and No. 18 Bowdoin earlier on the year but could not grab their third top-ranked victory. The win came as Penn's fourth against the Dragons all-time.
Sophomore Hayley Hughes faced a tough opponent in Reeham Sedky in the No. 1 position, but could not come away with the win as she fell in three games. It marked the first loss for Hughes on the campaign.
The Dragons fell in the eight remaining matches on Tuesday.
Though the match did not count towards the final team score, Drexel junior Kristine Giltvedt defeated Lauren Wolf from the No. 10 position by a final score of 11-8, 5-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7.
Drexel will now prep for the No. 4 Princeton Tigers on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. when the Dragons play host from the Kline & Specter Squash Center in the DAC.
