RICHMOND, Va. - Drexel freshman Vanessa Kara was named the Colonial Athletic Association's 2015 Rookie of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday evening. Kara, who had a standout first season in University City, also earned Second Team All-CAA and All-Rookie team honors. Wilhelmina Hauch-Fausbøll and Lauren Stollar were also honored by the league, earning spots on the Third Team and All-Academic Team respectively.
Kara, a rookie forward from Burlington, N.J., made her mark on the record books in her first season as a Dragon. Her 11 goals and 25 points on the year were good for single season program-bests and she matched the program record for game-winning goals in a single season with four. After just one season, she ranks eighth all-time in career goals and 10th in career points for the Dragons. Kara's three assists on the year tied for team leader and she was recognized three times over the course of the season as CAA Rookie of the Week.
Hauch-Fausbøll, a sophomore from Hellerup, Denmark, was a key part of Drexel's defense this season. Primarily an outside player, she was called upon to solidify the middle due to team injuries this season. The Third Team All-CAA selection also added three goals on the year, two of which served as the game-winners against Towson and Northeastern.
Stollar, a senior midfielder from Honolulu, Hawaii, missed the first four games of the season due to injury but played in the remaining 14 matches and started the final 13 to close out the season. A captain for the Dragons, Stollar is tied for ninth in program history for goals and has recorded four game-winning goals on her career. An All-Academic Team selection this year, Stollar was a member of the Third Team All-CAA in 2014. She has earned the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award for three straight years and last year was the recipient of the Laura Meikle Koch Coaches' Award.
The Dragons concluded the 2015 season at 9-9 overall and finished seventh in conference with a 3-6 record.
