No. 12 Dragons Get Past No. 14 Midshipmen 7-2

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 12 Drexel Dragons made it two straight wins with their 7-2 win over the No. 14 Navy Midshipmen at the Kline and Specter Squash Center on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Dragons' record to 6-8 on the season. The Midshipmen fall to 17-6 on the year.
The win is the first in program history for the men over Navy. The Dragons were 0-4 entering today.
In the first round of three matches Ibrahim Bakir lost in four games to James Kacergis of Navy. Bakir lost game three, after being tied at 8, 11-8, and four, 6-11, after winning game two 11-3. Mark Kauf dropped the first two games but then rallied back to win game 3 (11-7) and game four (11-8). In game five the junior was down 7-6 but then rattled off five straight points to get the win. Joey Gingold made it 2-1 Drexel after the first set of three matches with his 3-1 win over John Hsu. Gingold won games two through four after dropping the first, 11-6.
Luke Willemse got the Dragons their third win of the afternoon with his 3-0 sweep of Josh Hughes out of the number two spot. The freshman won the last nine points of game three to earn the sweep. Sebastian Dangond fell to William Walker in four games. Dongond won game two to tie the match at one but dropped game three 11-9, the game was tied eight and nine all, and game four 11-7.
In the last of the second round of matches Cillian Dunne earned a three-game sweep of Randy Beck. After taking game one, Dunne saved three game points and eventually tied the game at 10 in game two. Then down another game point, Dunne won three straight to take the game 15-13. The freshman from Sutton, Ireland won game three 11-3.
Nat Fry clinched the match for the Dragons with his win in four games over Reed Whitney in the number seven spot. Fry scored the first six points of game four and never trailed in the decisive game. For good measure both Michael Thompson and Atticus won their matches to give the Dragons the 7-2 win. Kelly went the distance versus Andrew McGuinness. Michael Thompson got the win in four games by three straight and never trailing in those games.
The Dragons conclude the home portion of their schedule when they Dickinson College on Friday for a men's and women's doubleheader.
