PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's soccer team battled Delaware to a scoreless draw on Senior Day at Vidas Field on Sunday afternoon. The tie, combined with a Northeastern win over James Madison, gives the Dragons a second place finish in conference and a bye as they head into the CAA playoffs for the third time in program history.
The first half proved to be evenly matched as the Dragons and Blue Hens headed to the locker room scoreless at halftime. Both teams came out fighting in the second period, with Drexel getting off eight shots to Delaware's six, but it was not enough to break the tie and the game headed into overtime. Despite a few close calls, neither team was able to score in extra time and the game ended in a 0-0 draw after 110 minutes of play.
The Dragons outshot the Blue Hens, 22-11. Drexel had seven corner kicks to Delaware's five. Senior Katie Sia got the start in goal for the Dragons and walked away with the decision on the draw. She recorded one save one the outing while Christiana Ogunsami, who came in to relieve Sia for the second half, tallied five. Delaware keeper Kailyn Rekos totaled nine saves on the game.
The Dragons finish the regular season at 8-6-4 overall and 4-2-3 against conference opponents. Delaware closes out the year with at 4-13-1, 3-5-1 CAA.
