BALTIMORE – The Drexel men's swimming and diving team concluded competition at the Loyola-hosted Thomas Murphy Invitational in Baltimore, Md. on Saturday afternoon. In the two-day meet, the Dragons defeated Loyola, 251-119, but fell to Johns Hopkins, 209.5-154.5.
On Saturday, Drexel earned four first-place victories, six second-place finishes and six third-place marks. The men also swept boards for the second consecutive day, including the 1-meter dive on Saturday.
Freshman Jason Arthur won both the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.95) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:08.15) on Saturday. His 200-yard backstroke time is now fifth all-time at Drexel.
Sophomore Luke Hanner grabbed a victory in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.37).
Junior Simon Carne won the 1-meter board with a score of 243.90 followed freshman Anthony Musciano in second with 237.60 and sophomore Michael Binkauskas in third at 216.97.
Sophomore Alberto Lagrutta Saenz turned in a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (52.04) and a third-place mark in the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.60).
Sophomore Joseph Brown finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.68) while senior Ivo Pejovic also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (47.06).
The Dragons turned in two second-place relay performances on Saturday as well. The group of Arthur, senior Sean Swartz, Pejovic and freshman Stathis Malamas were edged by Johns Hopkins by one-hundredth of a second in the 200-yard freestyle relay for second at 1:25.85.
Pejovic, Malamas, Arthur and Hanner also finished second in the 400-yard freestyle (3:08.15).
The Dragons will now take a few weeks off of competition before returning to action at George Mason's Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Va. from Thursday, Nov. 17 through Saturday, Nov. 19.

BALTIMORE – The Drexel men's swimming and diving team lead the Loyola Greyhounds, 78-31, but trail the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, 67-40, after day one at the Thomas Murphy Invitational on Loyola's campus in Baltimore.
Day one on Friday night for the men was highlighted by the sweep in the 3-meter board for the Dragons. After five swimming events and the 3-meter board, the Dragons have one first-place victory, four second-place marks and three third-place finishes.
Freshman Anthony Musciano (253.88), sophomore Michael Binkauskas (233.47) and junior Simon Carne (219.23) finished one-two-three in the 3-meter board for the Drexel sweep on Friday. Musciano's individual victory came as the lone first-place finish for the Dragons.
Senior Ivo Pejovic and freshman Jason Arthur earned the two individual second-place finishes for Drexel. Pejovic finished with a time of 21.60 in the 50-yard freestyle while Arthur touched the wall of the 200-yard individual medley at 1:53.94.
The Drexel men also finished second in the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:55.06) behind Pejovic, sophomore Patrick Cobb, sophomore Luke Hanner and freshman Stathis Malamas.
Cobb placed third individually in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:42.55.
Arthur, sophomore Ralph Cannarozzi III, sophomore Alberto Lagrutta Saenz and Malamas combined for a third-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay (3:28.38).
The Dragons return to the pool tomorrow, Saturday, October 29 at 10 a.m. for day two of the Loyola-hosted invitational.
