Men’s Swimming and Diving Finishes Second at the 2016 Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Drexel men's swimming and diving team finished in second place at the eight-team, three-day Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Va.
The Dragons (704) finished closely behind UMBC (710) followed by Seton Hall (669), UNCW (638), George Mason (538.5), Florida Atlantic (512.5), American (159) and Shippensburg (72).
Freshman Jason Arthur broke another school record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:47.78.
Sophomore Joseph Brown placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke as he touched the wall at 2:03.45.
The Dragons earned a third place finish on Saturday in the 400-yard freestyle relay behind freshman Stathis Malamas, sophomore Luke Hanner, Arthur and senior Ivo Pejovic.
Select Drexel swimmers will now compete at the AT&T Winter National Championships in Atlanta, Ga. from Thursday, Dec. 1 through Saturday, Dec. 3 to close out the 2016 portion of the schedule. The 2017 half of the schedule begins on Saturday, Jan. 7 when the Dragons host CAA foes Delaware at the Daskalakis Athletic Center for the first home meet of the season.

Men's Swimming and Diving Takes Lead After Day Two of Patriot Invite
FAIRFAX, Va. – After sitting tied with UMBC following day one of the Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Va., the Drexel men's swimming and diving team took sole possession of first play after a strong Saturday evening in the finals session.
The Dragons (492) lead the invitational with UMBC (479), Seton Hall (458) and UNCW (441) sitting close behind and George Mason (364), Florida Atlantic (360), American (118) and Shippensburg (54) closing out the eight-team men's field.
Freshman Jason Arthur took third in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:00.81.
Sophomore Ralph Cannarozzi III tabbed third as well in the 100-yard breaststroke as he touched the wall at 56.56.
Freshman diver Anthony Musciano placed third in the 3-meter board for Drexel with a score of 260.35. The freshman took fourth in the 1-meter on Thursday.
The 800-yard freestyle relay grouping of sophomore Patrick Cobb, freshman Stathis Malamas, sophomore Luke Hanner and senior Ivo Pejovic closed out the evening with a third-place showing with a time of 6:42.37.
Earlier in the night, Arthur, Cannarozzi III, sophomore Alberto Lagrutta Saenz and Pejovic finished fourth in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:32.27.
The Dragons conclude competition at the Patriot Invitational on Saturday with the 1650-yard freestyle, 100-yard individual medley, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and 400-yard freestyle relay.

Men's Swimming and Diving Tied for First at Patriot Invite After Day One
FAIRFAX, Va. – The Drexel men's swimming and diving team are currently tied for first place following day one of competition at the three-day Patriot Invitational down in Fairfax, Va.
The Dragons (212) are tied with UMBC (212) atop the team scores followed by Seton Hall (190), George Mason (189), UNCW (187), Florida Atlantic (156), American (48) and Shippensburg (40).
Freshman Jason Arthur turned in the top performance of the evening for the men, breaking a Drexel record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:49.78.
The Dragons also earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay behind senior Ivo Pejovic, senior Sean Swartz, Arthur and freshman Stathis Malamas.
Freshman diver Anthony Musciano placed fourth in the 1-meter board with a total of 262.40.
Action resumes on Friday at 10 a.m. with the prelims followed by the finals at 6 p.m. Diving prelims and finals begin at noon.
The men will compete tomorrow in the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, time trials and the 3-meter dive.
