Crew Closes Fall Season with Seven Victories at Frostbite Regatta

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Drexel Crew closed out its fall season Saturday afternoon with victories in seven races at the Frostbite Regatta on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
The Dragons sent 11 boats into 10 races and came away with wins in seven of those races and second-place finishes in two others. Drexel's women's varsity eights swept the three races in which they were entered.
Drexel's top women's boat, racing in the Cara Fry boat, took the top spot in its race with a 6:48.00, beating Saint Joseph's by more than 14 seconds. The Dragons' varsity eight B, in the Marlene Buckley II boat, took first with a time of 6:58.00, outlasting Saint Joseph's by almost seven seconds. The varsity eight C, racing in the Maria Papadakis boat, cruised to a first-place finish with a time of 7:08.30 to beat Saint Joseph's by 18 seconds.
Also recording wins for the Dragons were the men's second varsity eight A and B as well as the men's freshmen eight A and B boats. The second varsity eight A took the top spot with a time of 6:02.90 in the Lois Krall boat to beat Columbia by 14 seconds. The second varsity eight B outlasted Rhode Island, crossing the finish line in 6:26.30 in the Joseph Greipp boat. The Dragons' men's freshmen eight A rowed to an impressive time of 5:57.00 in the Joseph Greipp boat to edge Columbia by almost three seconds. The freshmen eight B cruised to the win by more than 15 seconds over Ithaca in the Vince Vidas boat with a time of 6:38.80.
Recording second-place finishes for the Dragons were the men's varsity eight A and the women's freshmen eight. The men's top boat took second in the Sandra Lee Sheller II boat with a time of 5:53.60, three and a half seconds behind Temple. The women's freshmen eight took second to Saint Joseph's in the Maria Papadakis boat with a time of 7:07.00.
The Dragons will now head into their winter training schedule before beginning their spring season in March.
