BOX SCORE
Lawrenceville, N.J. – Rider shot 49 percent from the floor and defeated Drexel, 90-82, on Friday night at Alumni Gym. All five Broncs starters scored at least 11 points as Rider improved to 7-3 this season. Drexel fell to 4-6.
Drexel trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half but mounted a comeback to tie the game. The Dragons went on a 12-3 run, capped off by a four straight points from Kurk Lee to even the game at 79-79. However, Rider answered with a 7-0 run of its own to take control of the contest down the stretch. Stevie Jordan started the run with a three-pointer and after a Drexel miss, Kahlil Thomas slammed home a dunk to make it 84-79 with :44 to play. The Dragons then turned the ball over and Jordan's lay-up sealed the deal for the Broncs.
The Dragons started the game off strong, making each of their first five field goal attempts, and led early 15-6. Rider bounced back and the game was an up-and-down affair for the first 20 minutes. Miles Overton drained a three-pointer with six seconds left on the clock to put Drexel ahead, 45-38. However, the Dragons left a little too much time on the clock and the Broncs' Jimmie Taylor hit a three at the buzzer to get the momentum back and cut the Drexel lead to four.
Rodney Williams led the Dragons with 23 points. The senior was 10-for-19 from the floor. Lee added 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. The rookie finished the day 8-for-19 shooting. Overton added 15 points, while Sammy Mojica scored 10 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had a team-high four steals. Austin Williams led the Dragons with nine rebounds before fouling out.
Jordan led all players with 26 points. The freshman also had six steals. Taylor scored 20 points and had four three-pointers. Norville Carey added 14, while Kahlil Thomas and Xavier Lundy each had 11 points.
The Dragons return home and will be back in the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Sunday when Kean University comes to town. Tip-off is at 4:30 p.m. or 30 minutes after the Drexel women's game against Saint Joseph's.
