Women's Tennis Drops Windy Wednesday Match to Towson, 4-3

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision on a chilly and windy Wednesday to Towson at Vidas Courts.
The Dragons are now 12-5 on the year and 1-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Wednesday's match against the Tigers featured three-set matches in four of the six singles matches.
"We can't afford to slow down when the momentum is in our favor," head coach Mehdi Rhazali said. "I know we will do a better job of controlling our focus level and staying positive. Towson fought hard today, and it earned the win."
Drexel got off to a strong start, winning an important doubles point in a match that it knew would be tough. Honami Yazawa and Clary Rodriguez Cruz cruised to a 6-1 win over Nicole Shakhnazarova and Barbora Vasilkova to get on the board before Erin Bowsher and Ryshena Providence grabbed the point for the Dragons with a 6-4 win over Sophie Lesage and Yevgeniya Shusterman. With the win, Bowsher moved into sole possession of third place in women's all-time doubles wins at Drexel with 47.
The momentum would not carry over into singles play, however. Drexel won two three-set matches, but that would be all Towson would yield. Yazawa fought back after dropping the second set to win in three over Shakhnazarova, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Providence would then also battle back from dropping the second, ultimately downing Lucy Gloninger, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-4. However, dropped straight-set matches at Nos. 2 and 6 along with three-set matches at Nos. 3 and 4 to fall to the Tigers.
Drexel will travel to Delaware along with the men's team to take on the Blue Hens at noon.
