WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Drexel women's crew faced a quick turnaround and a tough Northeastern crew Sunday morning and concluded the season by finishing second overall at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Mercer Lake.
Four Dragons would go on to collect awards as well. Emily Gartland, Sarah Messenger and Kendall Wenzke – all of the varsity eight – were named to the All-CAA Team, while varsity eight rower Paige Propp was named to the CAA All-Academic Team.
Because of high winds in the forecast for later in the day, racing was moved up to begin at 6 a.m. Coming off of a Dad Vail silver medal, the women's varsity eight, in the Cara Fry boat, again took the silver medal to Northeastern, finishing with a time of 6:43.221, about eight seconds behind the Huskies. Drexel's women's second varsity eight, which was also coming off Dad Vail silver rowing in the Marlene Buckley II boat, rowed to a silver medal with a time of 7:00.130, falling off of Northeastern's pace by 13.5 seconds.
Completing a strong season was the women's varsity four, which won Dad Vail silver a day earlier in the Sandra Lee Sheller boat, took silver at CAA competition as well, crossing the finish line at 7:47.210, about 13 seconds behind Northeastern. Finally, the third varsity eight in the Maria Papadakis boat, which was comprised of the Dragons' freshmen eight crew, took third with a time of 7:23.116.
