BOSTON, Mass. – The Boston Celtics on Wednesday added former Drexel men's basketball standout Damion Lee to their training camp roster.
Lee went undrafted in the 2016 NBA draft, but has a chance now to crack the Celtics' opening day roster. Currently at 20 players, the Celtics must cut their roster down to 15 players by the start of the regular season. They open the year in Boston against the Brooklyn Nets on Oct. 26.
Drexel has seen two alumni go on to play in the NBA. Michael Anderson was drafted by the Indiana Pacers 73rd overall in the 1988 NBA draft and later played in 36 games for the San Antonio Spurs during the 1989 season. Malik Rose was drafted 44th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 1996 NBA draft and went on to play 13 seasons with the Hornets, Spurs, New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder. Rose won the NBA title in 1999 and 2003 as a member of the Spurs.
Lee, a 2015 graduate, finished his career with the Dragons ranked 10th all-time in points scored (1,538), eighth in three-point field goals (196) and first in free throw percentage (.842). He was a member of the 2011-12 team that set a school record with 29 wins and advanced to the NIT quarterfinals against Massachusetts.
The Baltimore native was named All-CAA First Team in 2015 after leading the conference in scoring, averaging 21.4 point per game. He was also named All-CAA Second Team in 2013 and was the CAA Rookie of the Year in 2012. Lee finished out his college eligibility in 2015-16 at Louisville.
